(January 31, 2014) The production features the talents of many student actors, singers, dancers, musicians, and crew members. The show is wonderfully entertaining and will touch the hearts of people of all ages. In short, considered by many to be the perfect musical comedy.
Guys and Dolls follows Salvation Army crusaders and high rollers from the streets of Times Square to Havana and back again. Nathan Detroit, who is permanently-engaged to psychosomatic showgirl Miss Adelaide (see video above), will be forced to fold Detroit’s Oldest Established Permanent Floating Crap Game unless he wins a bet from slick high roller Sky Masterson. When Sky gambles that he can woo any “doll” Nathan counters that Sky will not be able to convince an up-right but up-tight missionary named Sarah to go to Havana with him. Sarah finds the rakish Sky very resistible at first, but eventually both Sky and Sarah teach each other a lesson on winning. The Riverhead Community and surrounding areas should be very proud of the many students that came together as a “team” to put together a wonderful event for all to enjoy. The evening will provide ample opportunity to showcase the talents of many adult and student performers. Riverhead Teacher and show director, Mr. Edward Tholl Jr., had this to say about the upcoming event. “We are thrilled to be able to showcase so many students. It is wonderful to see how our original set was transformed once again this year. I am so proud that the STUDENT’S of the cast choreographed the musical numbers and brought the play to life with their wonderful singing. Our STUDENT sound/lighting team and set constructors helped to create an awesome atmosphere for all to enjoy. A cast with this much talent will surely help lead this show to a “Happy Ending.” We look forward to seeing the finished product of much hard work by all. |
Riverhead Middle School Secretary, (Show Producer) Mrs. Patricia Skura is so proud of this show and had this to say….”We have gone through so many obstacles getting this show to go on….believe me, many! The students have worked so hard and this is the first time we’re putting a show on without a choreographer and without a musical director….the kids did it all!!!! Everything this year is being done by the students…..Please sit back and enjoy this STUDENT production of “Guys and Dolls”…there will be reason to “lament.” |
